Eating around training: the snack next to the muay thai gym

The snack and the muay thai gym share one address, at Casse Ghoon Road, Pointe aux Canonniers 30522 — on the main road in Grand Baie, next to the football pitch. Same family, two counters, two timetables. The snack is open Monday to Friday from 7am to 2pm; the Team Boom club trains on Monday, Wednesday and Friday, at 5:45pm for group A and 7:00pm for group B. Which means: lunch happens before the session, not after.

One address, two counters

It is a rare and very practical set-up: you eat where you train. For club members who work in the area, it is the same car park at noon and in the evening. For a parent dropping a teenager off at training, it is one landmark to remember. And for someone new to the area, it settles two questions at once — where to have a proper lunch, and where to move in the evening. The club, its schedule and its prices are on team.boom.mu.

Lunch on a training day

The Rs 250 daily menu is made for it: a full plate — rice, red beans, chicken salmi, lettuce salad, for example — cooked that same morning. It is a whole meal taken at midday, a comfortable distance from a session starting at 5:45 or 7:00pm. What goes on that plate and why it changes every day is the subject of our article on the Mauritian canteen.

Mind the clock, though: the daily menu is cooked in a single pot and almost always sells out before 1pm. If your break falls later, there are still the filled breads, made to order in the wok — chicken sauter at Rs 90, beef with onions at Rs 95 — as long as there is bread.

After the session, the snack is shut

Let us be plain about it: at 5:45 and 7:00pm the snack closed a long time ago. We shut at 2pm and we do not open in the evening. So the meal on a training day belongs at midday, or the next morning from 7am — which is in fact the favourite hour of everyone who wants something solid before a day on their feet: vegetable roti at Rs 25, sausage sauter at Rs 75, warm bread filled in front of you.

For families and people passing through

Local families use both addresses without thinking about it: errands and lunch at the counter during the day, training in the evening at the same spot. People staying in the north — Grand Baie, Pereybere, Trou aux Biches, Mont Choisy — find the same simplicity: one point on the map, a canteen open on weekdays and a club that takes beginners three evenings a week.

For a visitor the appeal is mostly practical: you find the place once, you have lunch there at midday, and you know where to come back in the evening without hunting for a second address in a village you barely know yet. The snack serves everyone at the same price — the one on the board, the same for neighbourhood regulars and for people passing through once.

The same family on both sides

This is not a commercial partnership: it is the same family holding the wok in the morning and training in the evening. The logic is the same on both sides of the counter — fixed hours, posted prices, nothing complicated. A whole morning behind the snack counter is told in this article, including the end of service at 2pm, when part of the household heads for the gym.

Order before noon

To eat without losing your break to a queue: a message by phone or WhatsApp on +230 5987 8153 before noon, and your order is ready when you arrive. We do not deliver. Monday to Friday, 7am to 2pm, Casse Ghoon Road, Pointe aux Canonniers — main road in Grand Baie, next to the football pitch. The gym is right there in the evening.
