Where to eat near Mont Choisy beach: takeaway food from Pointe aux Canonniers

Mont Choisy beach is the big public beach of northern Mauritius: a long strip of white sand under the casuarina trees, between Trou aux Biches and Grand Baie. People come for the day, with family or friends — and at noon the question is always the same: where to eat? Right next door, in Pointe aux Canonniers, Chez Boom fills bread from the wok Monday to Friday, and everything is takeaway.

A few minutes from the beach

The snack is on the main Grand Baie road, next to the football ground — Casse Ghoon Road, Pointe aux Canonniers 30522, the village that touches Mont Choisy on the Grand Baie side. By car or scooter it is a few minutes from the beach; by bus, it is the coastal line. You order at the counter, leave with your bread in a bag, and eat under the trees.

What to take to the beach

Filled breads travel well, that is what they are for. The chicken sauter at 90 Rs and the beef and onion sauter at 95 Rs are the safe bets; the sausage sauter at 75 Rs is the simplest. From the sea, the fish salad, the squid sauter and, when it is in, the ourite safranée at 150 Rs — fresh lagoon octopus, the most requested bread at the counter. What a sauter is and how it is cooked is explained in our article on the sauter.

If you would rather eat at a table, the 250 Rs daily menu is a full plate cooked the same morning — rice, pulses, meat in sauce, salad. It almost always sells out before 1pm: for a beach day, it is the meal before, not the one on the way back.

The hour that matters

The snack opens at 7am and closes at 2pm, Monday to Friday. For the beach, the right move is to order by phone or WhatsApp on +230 5987 8153 before noon and pick the breads up on the way to Mont Choisy: they are ready when you arrive, each with a name on it. We do not deliver, and on Saturday and Sunday we are closed — for a weekend at the beach, you will need another plan.

The same beach as the club

We know Mont Choisy well: it is where the Team Boom muay thai club, run by the same family as the snack, trains on the sand and set up its Training Camp in October 2026. One snack bar, one club, one family. The rest of the board, price by price, is in our guide to eating cheaply in Pointe aux Canonniers.
